Romainian Emergency Aid & Community Help
WELCOME
Our Beginnings - 1991.
OUR BEGINNINGS – REACH has been supporting various groups in different parts of Romania for over 35 years. Comprising of local volunteers the UK charity was formed in 1991, when members of the emergency services in Skegness, Lincolnshire took aid to the very poor parts of Romania. The transporting of aid increased year on year, with articulated lorries taking aid including building material, bikes, clothes, mattresses, food and toys to orphanages and children’s camps. Also supplying much needed medical aid to hospitals and orphanages in Romania. However, because of Romania joining the EU in 2007, there are now major restrictions placed on imports of aid. This is due to Romania now needing to increase its manufacturing output, and also reduce unemployment.
Because of this, the emphasis at REACH had to be re-evaluated.
Sunlight Centre is situated in the Danube Delta area (Dunavatu de Jos, Tulcea County, Romania). Raza SoareluiSunlight is the only charity organization in an isolated, perspective limited area. The majority of the local community consists of fishermen that lately have to deal with poor fish catch and among the schools of Dunava and Murighiol we have noticed many children from underprivileged families that have consistently scored very low on school tests and are at risk of school drop out.
SUNLIGHT HOLIDAY CAMP
INDEPENDENCE AND SELF-WORTH
The campsite at Danube Delta originated in 1992. it’s purpose is to promote a holiday environment and activities for underprivileged Romanian children. However It does a lot more, by promoting the children’s independence and self-worth, demonstrating team working. Learning to respect themselves and others.
About Our Work
Sunlight Center is situated in the Danube Delta area ( Dunavatu de Jos, Tulcea County, Romania). Raza Soarelui-Sunlight is the only charity organization in an isolated, perspective limited area. Over the years REACH has supported this work in practical ways. REACH volunteer’s have visited annually carrying out building work and improving the camps facilities. We have sent shoe boxes containing treats for the children who have so little, and we constantly fund raise so equipment can be purchased locally to help with the camps upkeep.
In recent years we have been able to sponsor a time at the camp for disabled children. These children take part in various activities, stimulating them by music, craft workshops, cooking, games and fishing.
Members of REACH pay their own transport costs, and constantly fund raise to give money to help with materials, build extensions to the camps. Also to help fund the purchasing of vital equipment for the camp.

Dear Friends
I wrote to you about replacing the asbestos roof with a sheet metal roof on the building with bedrooms, ground floor, first floor and attic. Things did not go so smoothly, because the company that promised us that the work would start on November 1st, has not shown any sign of life. But the Prayer solves things that we cannot solve. We thank God that we found another company that did a good job in a relatively short time and the Lord gave very good weather to be able to work! We also replaced the roof insulation, where it was inadequate. In addition, with the help of Trevor Oliver UK, we managed to close off a free space where we will make another bath-room for campers, and in this way will be ok for requirement of the Romanian legislation. Now we pray with Hope that we will receive help for the necessary equipment of the bathroom, calculated only for materials 1500 E, with labour 2000 E.
Home care for the elderly. We have around 30 people who we visit at twice a month with food, we take their prescriptions and medicines from the doctor and pharmacy, we take them to the doctor when they need it. Between December 5-7, we had a Food collection campaign in partnership with the Constanta Food Bank. I had fears about people’s generosity because everything had become more expensive, but the prayers were heard by God and 1100 kg of basic food (oil, sugar, rice, pasta, wheat and corn flour, canned goods, biscuits, etc.) were collected in the Penny and Lidl Markets in Tulcea.
The activity was done with the help of 27 young volunteers from the George Georgescu Tulcea High School of Arts. Bags of 15-17 kg of food were made and dis-tributed to 60-65 families. These volunteers came and helped us distribute them in several localities: Sari-nasuf, Plopu, Murighiol, Dunavatu de Sus and Du-navatu de Jos to at least 20 families, an opportunity that allowed me to talk to people about God’s good-ness in the difficult times we live in.
Sunlight Day Centre. Around 20 children regularly attend it weekly. In December we organized the Christmas Program, skit, rehearsal, celebration, children, parents and other guests and of course gifts, cakes made in the Centre for everyone, but also the proclamation of the Word of God. It was a great joy for all those present.
Carols in the villages of Sarinasuf, Plopu, Murighiol, Dunavatu de Jos and Dunavatu de Sus. 16 older children and 4 adults participated in this activity and we managed to visit another 35 families with bags of food.
We left at 10:00 in the morning and stopped at 16:00, because the younger ones could no longer concentrate due to fatigue. Several elderly women over 75 years old, sick in bed, with tears in their eyes told us that the carols sung are a relief from suffering, and when we spoke to them about God who through Jesus Christ gave us hope, their hearts were filled with joy. I remember an elderly woman in bed crying because the priest did not come to confess her, to confess her sins. Between 2 carols I took a longer break in which I talked to her about what the Scripture teaches us, that God forgives sins. The woman remained in peace, with the desire to speak more on this topic. I thank the Lord for bringing people who needed spiritual help to my way. GLORY TO THE LORD.
Thank you for your prayers and help, God Bless you!
