The Baptist Church at Cataloi was the first to be established in Romania, although not on this present site. The current church building was a converted farm house and was in a poor state.
Our task was to remove the roof, ceiling, doors and windows so that reinforced concrete could be built into the wall to extend the building and support a new roof.
On Monday morning we began and by nightfall we were down to the wooden rafters and mud and reed ceiling. Adrian & Gabi were surprised at the rapid progress as much as we were. It seemed that Gang ‘09 were into demolition in a big way.
Day two saw the ceiling, windows and doors gone and the long haul of removing dry, dusty mud, sharp reeds and debris began. This was extremely hard, dirty work but with the help of local people, two horse and carts and a wheezy tractor and trailer we managed to finish the job, leaving all in a decent state, ready for the re-building. We even had time to visit Tulcea for an hour or two to buy gifts before we set off for the long haul back home.
At both centres we achieved far more than either they or we expected and there was great satisfaction on all sides.
R.E.A.C.H. had reached out and God had blessed many.
